Rejuvenate your skin through exfoliation

Rejuvenate your Skin through Exfoliation

July 25, 2013

We know it can be extremely frustrating to look in the mirror and see fine lines, acne scars, or sun damage, especially if you have always taken proper care of your skin! Take solace in the fact that if your current skin care regimen isn’t giving you the results you want, there are treatments available to help restore and rejuvenate the skin, keeping it looking smooth and youthful.

The remaining challenge may simply be determining which treatment is right for you. To get you started, we’d like to discuss microdermabrasion and chemical peels, two incredible exfoliation treatments favored by individuals seeking to restore youthfulness, smooth out lines, and even out skin tone.

Chemical Peels & Microdermabrasion

The main similarity between microdermabrasion and chemical peel is the highly beneficial process of exfoliation, which begins the process of restoring and rejuvenating the skin by enabling the removal of the skin’s damaged outer cells, thereby promoting cell renewal, collagen production, and skin elasticity. These processes give the skin a renewed and vibrant look!

There are important differences between these treatments, however, and the main difference is the method by which they are administered. Microdermabrasion is a manual exfoliation process that involves applying a precisely directed stream of abrasive crystals to the skin. The result is the loosening and removal of the top layer of dead skin cells. Chemical peel, or Glycolic Peel, exfoliates through a chemical process, in which a sugar cane derived mild alpha hydroxyl acid penetrates the skin. The strength of the chemical peel will determine the amount of skin peeling following treatment.

Post Treatment

Once administered, each treatment may be followed by a brief period of time in which the skin feels slightly sensitive and continues to peel. It is also extremely important to wear sun screen and refrain from tanning post treatment.

Many of our patients return for repeated treatments throughout the year to maintain their healthy complexion and newly rejuvenated skin. Typically, one microdermabrasion treatment or chemical peel will produce noticeable results. Remember that results of these treatments vary.

If you are looking to boost to your appearance, consider these convenient treatments. Remember that they may require a few days for full effect and recovery, so plan ahead!
